Homesteading Class for Homeschool Kids 

(ESA Program Welcome)

Class Overview

This hands-on 4-week course is designed for homeschool students. Each 2-hour class, held once a week, introduces kids to the essentials of caring for goats, chickens, ducks, pigs, tortoise and livestock guardian dogs. Through interactive activities, demonstrations, and practical tasks, students will learn the responsibilities of raising and maintaining healthy, happy livestock. The course emphasizes animal welfare, practical skills, and the joys of farm life.

Course Details

  • Duration: 4 weeks, one 2-hour class per week
  • Target Audience: Homeschool students (ages 5–18), adaptable based on interest and ability)
  • Location: Lil Goat Town 7377 S. 169th PL Queen Creek AZ 85142
  • Class Size: Limited to 10 students for hands-on engagement
  • Cost: $200.00 for the four week course.
  • Time: 8:00am - 10:00am

Weekly Breakdown

Week 1: Introduction to Livestock Care and Goats

  • Objectives: Understand basic livestock needs and focus on goat care.
  • Topics:
    • Overview of livestock: nutrition, shelter, and health basics.
    • Goat-specific care: feeding (hay, grain, minerals), milking, hoof trimming, and basic grooming.
    • Safety around livestock: proper handling and behavior.
  • Activities:
    • Meet and greet with goats, care of goats, practice safe handling, and learn all about the farm chore
    • Demonstration of milking and hoof care.
    • Group discussion: Why do we raise livestock?


Week 2: Chickens and Ducks

  • Objectives: Learn poultry care and differences between chickens and ducks.
  • Topics:
    • Housing: coops, runs, and predator protection.
    • Feeding: layer feed, scratch grains, and waterfowl-specific diets.
    • Egg collection and basic health checks (e.g., checking for mites).
    • Differences in chicken and duck care (e.g., ducks need water access).
  • Activities:
    • Clean a coop and collect eggs.
    • Observe and handle chickens and ducks.
    • Create a simple feeding schedule.

 

Week 3: Pigs and Basic Husbandry

  • Objectives: Explore pig care and general livestock husbandry.
  • Topics:
    • Pig needs: diet (grains, vegetables, and supplements), shelter, and mud wallows.
    • Health monitoring: signs of illness, basic wound care, and parasite prevention.
    • Space and enrichment for pigs: rooting and foraging behaviors.
  • Activities:
    • Prepare a pig meal and observe feeding.
    • Design a pig enrichment activity (e.g., scattering food for foraging).
    • Group task: Sketch a pig pen layout.


Week 4: Livestock Guardian Dogs, Tortoises, and Putting It All Together

  • Objectives: Understand the role of livestock guardian dogs, learn tortoise care, and review all livestock care.
  • Topics:
    • Role of guardian dogs: protecting livestock from predators.
    • Dog care: feeding, training, and bonding with livestock.
    • Tortoise care: habitat (enclosures, heat, UVB lighting), diet (leafy greens, vegetables), and hibernation basics.
    • Review of all animals: creating a care checklist for mixed livestock and tortoises.
  • Activities:
    • Meet a livestock guardian dog and observe its behavior with animals.
    • Practice basic commands with a dog (if safe and appropriate).
    • Observe a tortoise enclosure and practice gentle handling.
    • Group project: Create a weekly care plan for a small farm with goats, poultry, pigs, dogs, and tortoises.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will:

  • Understand the basic needs of goats, chickens, ducks, pigs, livestock guardian dogs, and tortoises.
  • Gain hands-on experience in feeding, handling, and basic health checks for all animals.
  • Develop confidence in safely interacting with livestock and tortoises.

Gardening Class for Homeschool Kids (ESA Program)

Class Overview

This interactive 4-week gardening course is designed for homeschool students . Each 1.5-hour class, held once a week at Lil Goat Town Farm, introduces kids to the joys of growing herbs, vegetables, flowers, and fruit. Through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and practical tasks, students will learn essential gardening skills, sustainable practices, and the basics of plant care. The course fosters a love for nature and teaches kids how to cultivate their own food and flowers.

  • Duration: 4 weeks, one 1.5 -hour class per week
  • Target Audience: Homeschool students (ages 5–18, adaptable based on interest and ability)
  • Location: Lil Goat Town Farm
  • Class Size: Limited to 10 students for hands-on engagement

Week 2: Planting Herbs and Vegetables

  • Objectives: Learn how to plant and care for herbs and vegetables.
  • Topics:
    • Selecting seeds and seedlings: basil, cilantro, carrots, and lettuce.
    • Planting techniques: spacing, depth, and labeling.
    • Watering and mulching: keeping plants healthy.
  • Activities:
    • Plant herb and vegetable seeds/seedlings in a prepared bed.
    • Create plant labels using natural materials.
    • Practice proper watering techniques.

Week 3: Growing Flowers and Pollination

  • Objectives: Explore flower gardening and the role of pollinators.
  • Topics:
    • Flower care: planting marigolds, zinnias, or sunflowers.
    • Pollination: the role of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
    • Companion planting: how flowers support vegetable growth.
  • Activities:
    • Plant flower seeds or seedlings in a garden bed.
    • Observe pollinators in the farm’s garden.
    • Design a small companion planting layout (e.g., flowers with vegetables).

Week 4: Fruit Plants and Garden Maintenance

  • Objectives: Understand fruit plant care and ongoing garden maintenance.
  • Topics:
    • Fruit plant basics: caring for strawberries, blueberry bushes, or dwarf fruit trees.
    • Garden maintenance: weeding, pest control (organic methods), and harvesting.
    • Planning a sustainable garden: crop rotation and seasonal care.
  • Activities:
    • Plant or care for a fruit plant (e.g., strawberry runners).
    • Harvest ripe herbs, vegetables, or flowers (if available).

All-Natural Lotions and Lip Balms Class for Homeschool Kids 

Class Overview

This fun, hands-on 1.5-hour class is designed for homeschool students. Held at Lil Goat Town Farm, the class teaches kids how to create all-natural lotions and lip balms using simple, safe ingredients. Through guided instruction and practical activities, students will explore the basics of natural skincare, ingredient safety, and the joy of crafting their own products. This one-day workshop encourages creativity and introduces sustainable, homemade alternatives to commercial products.

  • Duration: One 1.5-hour class
  • Target Audience: Homeschool students (ages 8–16, adaptable based on interest and ability)
  • Location: Lil Goat Town Farm
  • Class Size: Limited to 6 students for hands-on engagement
  • Cost: $ 75.00 per class
  • Time: 2:00pm to 3:30 pm

Class Breakdown

  • Objectives: Learn to make all-natural lotions and lip balms and understand the benefits of natural ingredients.
  • Topics:
    • Introduction to natural skincare: why use all-natural ingredients?
    • Key ingredients: shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, essential oils, and their benefits.
    • Safety basics: proper handling of ingredients and equipment (e.g., double boilers).
    • Simple recipes for lotion and lip balm: measuring, melting, mixing, and pouring.
  • Activities:
    • Create a small batch of all-natural lotion using shea butter and coconut oil.
    • Make a custom lip balm with beeswax and a safe essential oil (e.g., lavender or peppermint).
    • Decorate and label personal product containers (jars or tins).
    • Group discussion: Benefits of homemade skincare and reducing waste.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the class, students will:

  • Understand the basics of making all-natural lotions and lip balms.

Goat Yoga

 

Goat Yoga at Lil Goat Town

Join us for a unique and joyful experience at Lil Goat Town goat Yoga, held on soft, warm beach sand for a serene desert vibe. Our classes feature playful Nigerian Dwarf goats, known for their small size, friendly personalities, and love for interaction. Led by Caleb, the enthusiastic captain of our goat yoga team, this class combines gentle yoga poses with the delightful presence of our furry friends, creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for all skill levels, come stretch, laugh, and bond with these adorable goats in a one-of-a-kind setting!
